Phoenix Island Development of China (owner of Sanya Phoenix Island) will be teaming up with Daktronics, a supplier of large screen LED-based video displays, to install about 33,000 linear meters (108,000 feet) of LED stick video elements from Daktronics. The island is home to six luxury apartment buildings, a five-star hotel, conference center, a signature seven-star hotel, and domestic and international ferry terminals. The island also has 360 degree round view resort centers, a business club, a walking street, international yacht club, Olympic center, and an international harbor.
The installation of the multi-million dollar Daktronics LED display system is set to be completed by the end of 2010. This will be in plenty of time for the completion of the construction of Phoenix Island which is expected to be completed by 2014. This order was booked during the Daktronics' fourth quarter of fiscal year 2010.
The video display elements from Daktronics to be used in the project are ProPixel(R) LED stick elements, which will be installed on the outside of the buildings. The island's owner envisioned covering every building on the island with top quality LEDs. The development company worked with Daktronics from the very early concept stages. the curtain-wall on the outside of each building was specifically designed to house the Daktronics LED stick elements. Daktronics contends that the specially designed exterior will allow for a sleeker, continuous look, without the appearance of add-on features
